GIVE BACK! GIVING is a very special thing we ALL can do. I’m talking about the
type of GIVING where we don’t look for, or expect, anything in return.
Years ago I read a book where the author suggested waking up each and every day
looking for ways to give, to help, to serve. I have implemented this simple
little thing into my life and have benefited greatly as a result.
Life is a FIGHT and it may be easy to get so caught up in your own struggles
that you feel like you don’t have time to ‘give’. Nothing could be further from
the truth. You see, the type of giving I’m talking about is simply doing what
you can.
Can you smile? If so, give someone a smile. You don’t need money to give. You
don’t need any additional time to give. Without changing a thing in your current
life, just start paying attention…start looking for the opportunities that are
all around you.
Start simple. Try going a day where you smile at every person you see. While
standing in line at the grocery store smile at someone. Want to go a bit
further? Smile and then give a compliment. Make someone’s day. Smile and follow
it with something like, “I just wanted to say you have a really great energy
about you…and I appreciate it. Have a great day”! …If you’re not comfortable
with that kind of statement smile and just tell them they look great. The smile
will have them ready for whatever comes next.
When you do these simple little things, I guarantee you this. You will start to
feel great. Trust me…you will! You see, when you give, when you help others, you
help yourself. Our energy is all the same and it is impossible to give without
gaining…in some manner or another.
For those of you who want to do even more…GO FOR IT! Still smile for the world
needs more smiles! Giving back means doing what you can. If you want to do more,
then by all means do it. If you are blessed to have money, look for
opportunities to help others in need. If you are blessed to have free time,
share it with someone in need. If you have a special talent, look for ways to
share it with others. I made this movie to help raise money for the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation. I’m the youth soccer coach of Nat Gallen, a young boy who
is FIGHTing Cystic Fibrosis.
Nat “gives” in so many ways. His enthusiasm for life and optimistic spirit is
most contagious. I “get” from Nat each and every time I’m near him. He shares
his smiles. He shares his energy. He freely gives his optimistic spirit to
everyone he touches. He is facing and fighting a deadly disease on a daily basis
yet I’ve never met anyone who is happier …anyone who smiles more.
Giving is a choice. It is my hope that you’ll choose to be a “GIVER”. Start
today. Give what you can. At a minimum, smile and make the world a happier, more
joyful place.
I’ve chosen the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as the primary group I want to help.
While I hope others will join me in supporting the CFF, choose whatever cause
feels ‘right’ to you. The key is doing what you can. Begin with a smile and then
start to go the extra mile. When you start giving…truly giving with no
expectations of a return… The UNIVERSE takes note and conspires with you. When
you give, the UNIVERSE gives right back and the circle continues on.
Make today a great one… and GIVE! |
